What are Meltdown and Spectre?
In brief, “Meltdown” affects the most fundamental isolation of user applications from the operating system, which could allow a program to access memory being used by another program, or the Operating System; while “Spectre” is reported to break the isolation between error-free applications. What GOZEN Host customers need to do?
GOZEN Host dedicated server customers should update their servers operating systems to install the patches that fix the vulnerability. Any server on which a malicious actor can run code is vulnerable. (our managed customers are already being contacted by our support personnel and updates are on the go)
What are we doing to keep our customers safe?
We have already begun the rollout of patches to our cloud, VPS and business hosting platforms. We will be booking maintenance windows with clients to install the necessary operating system patches.
Update your servers immediately
While there is no evidence that Spectre and Meltdown have been widely exploited, you never know when they will. The full details of both vulnerabilities are publicly available. Updating your systems OS is the best way to protect it.
